| Gliders: How DO They Fly & How Can I Fly One? |
| |
Have you always been curious about gliders and how they stay up in the sky? Here's your opportunity to learn about the real thing as this course will cover: history of gliders in peacetime and war with the evolution into the modern sailplane; basic aerodynamics of flight; discussion of glider pilot training and flying requirements; and a working knowledge of glider operations to include methods of launch from ground and flight crew requirements. Homework will include some internet. 6 hours of the 12 hours of class work can be credited toward the FAA requirement to take the Private Glider Pilot written examination! Several students from past classes are almost licensed! An optional field trip day will be discussed, at your expense, to the Hot Springs Municipal Airport to participate in glider operations with the Black Hills Soaring Club (BHSC) and students will be offered a $50 special guest soaring flight over the Hot Springs Airport which will earn you a certificate that verifies you have soared with the Eagles over the Black Hills! |
